'Best Investment We Ever Made'
“Installing the Blackhawk XP135A engine upgrade on our Conquest was the best investment we ever made – and the efforts to make the experience smooth and enjoyable by Blackhawk were astonishing. Your performance representations were right on the mark. When we need assistance in tweaking the engines, you sent someone to Denver, at your expense, to review the situation and not only adjusted engines, but taught us how to maximize their performance with proper attention to power settings, climb speeds, loading, etc. It has been several years since the installation and we could not be happier.”
Herb Buchwald, 425-0214, Air Colorado
'Outstanding'
“The airplane is outperforming the specifications you are claiming. I am getting approximately 5 more knots than advertised and the climb performance is outstanding.”
Bernard Lavene, 425-0066, Electronic Concepts, Inc.
'New Life'
“We are very happy with the recent XP135A upgrade to our aging (1983) aircraft. It has really given new life to the old girl. Too bad Cessna doesn’t still produce this model since it fits the majority of the mission profiles that we require. We have done upgrades on paint, props, exhaust stacks, avionics and now engines and short of a completely new interior; believe it to be the best 425 out there. If we had a higher max cabin pressure differential, we wouldn’t even hesitate flying up to FL280. Having finally installed the new electronic torque gauges really allows fine-tuning of power settings, and they look sharp too!”
Bob Munday, 425-0167
'Perfect Solution'
“The Conquest allows us to fulfill business demands in places such as Elkins or other short fields scattered in West Virginia’s mountains without thinking twice. We can complete short legs for a fraction of the cost of operating our larger jets and we don’t lose much time. The boss likes to go fast and didn’t want to part with his Conquest I. Speed is what brought us to the table and sealed the deal. The more efficient engines introduced a 30 knot speed increase which we recognized as our perfect solution.”
Butch Fortune, Chief Pilot, 425-0140, The United Company
'A Far Better Airplane'
“When I decided to get the PT6-135A engines I was 141 hours (approximately 1 year flying) from a hot section. After a hot section I would still have 25-year-old engines. At least in theory, the airplane would increase in value, raising hope that the cost would be recovered, at least partially with the upgraded engines. Although the engines are still derated to 450 HP, their higher thermal limits make all the difference in the world. Critical altitude went from 17,000 to 24,000 feet, giving better climb performance up to the 24.000 foot level. At 24,000 feet, true airspeed went from about 256 to around 280 nm with a fuel flow increase from 75 to 80 gph. To me, the extra fuel flow has been worth it. Overall, I am very happy with the 135A engines, now that I have 366 hours on them. I have no regrets and am glad I made the switch to the new engines. I think that the Conquest I is a far better airplane with these engines than with the original PT6-112.”
Albert Sickinger, Owner, 425-0076
'Great People'
“Aviation is a tough business, especially finding people you trust, but Blackhawk will be more than their word…they are great people…”
Mike Chaplin, Owner
'Good for Cash Flow'
“The new Blackhawk engines increase the performance of our aircraft and allow us to reduce the flight time…for the same commercial price. It is very good for the company cash flow.”
Albert Ruoso, BL-11
'Helps With Operating Costs'
“The improved speed and performance really adds up on our long flights and helps with our operating costs.”
Scott Dean, Flight King, LLC, BB 360
'Thrilling performance'
“I just flew 425ML for the first time last week after getting the new Blackhawk engines, and I am really thrilled with the performance. Last week’s flight from CA to FL took 7 hours flight time with one stop, which is more than a full hour less it took with the old 112 engines (I do this flight 4-5 times a year). We did between 282 to 287 KTAS all the way at FL270.”
Michael Dreschner, Conquest I, Conquest Investments, Inc.
My engines still have time left to TBO so should I wait until the engines are due for overhaul?
Pratt & Whitney Canada offers an engine credit of $35 per hour (for PT6A-112 engines) for every hour remaining to the factory TBO. For example if you have 2,500 hours remaining to TBO you multiply the hours remaining by the hourly credit for each engine. To get time remaining credits your engines must have enough cycles on the life limited components to make TBO and you must have all records supporting the component times and cycles. The risk of waiting until TBO is that you could have some sort of engine problem that might cause a core charge and our price from P&WC increases every year so waiting two or three years just means you will pay more and not get any of the time remaining credits.
Does the price include props?
No. However all props (McCauley, Hartzell) are approved with the Blackhawk XP135A upgrade and can be added at additional cost.
Do you give the same credit for the MORE program TBO?
No. P&WC issues the core credits and does not recognize the MORE program.
Can I keep my cores?
Only if you are willing to pay P&WC for the cores, as the price already reflects the value of the cores. Prices will depend on core engine times.
Can I put the airplane on charter?
Yes. In fact, many charter companies prefer a Blackhawk-modified aircraft because it allows them to operate out of shorter runways in the mountains.
How much weight does the upgrade add?
None.
Are there any modifications to the airframe?
No.
There are other engine upgrades available at a slightly cheaper price. Why should I pay more for your upgrade?
With all businesses, a lower valued or inferior product must offer a lower price in order to compete. What needs to be taken into consideration is the value of product support, product branding, and resale value. Blackhawk is the only engine upgrade that offers the following exclusive benefits:
- Listed in Jetnet and AMSTAT as an added feature
- One of the first companies to have its engine upgrades listed in Aircraft Bluebook and Vref
- The largest installed fleet of upgraded corporate size turboprop aircraft in the world
- The only engine upgrade company to have an aircraft manufacturer change its assembly line to incorporate the same engine on production aircraft, creating the C90GT
- Full customer support department with on staff technical support technician, customer service representative, and worldwide distribution and service center network
- The strongest resale value of any engine upgrade on the market
What about resale value?
To date, nearly every Blackhawk that has been resold within 500 hours of flying time has sold very close to or, in many cases, for more than, the combined investment of the airframe and engines. Resale value of Blackhawk-equipped aircraft remains strong in all markets. Many dealers are even speculating on Blackhawk-upgraded aircraft.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We have several banks that offer very competitive rates for our products.
How long does it take to do the upgrade?
About three weeks, depending on the installing shop. Blackhawk does not guarantee those installation times.
What is the lead time on the engines?
Blackhawk orders all engines a year in advance, so we usually can have a set delivered within 30-60 days, or sooner, in some cases.
Can my shop do the installation or does Blackhawk have to do the installation?
Blackhawk does not do installations. Although the installation is basically an engine change and can be done by any P&W-certified facility; we have found that customers save time and money if the work is done at any of our approved installation facilities worldwide. They have the experience to complete the installation faster and with the higher exacting quality setup that we demand. Please see our distributor list for an installer near you.
