Community Commitment
Freedom Ball
Jim and Lynette Allmon are the proud founders of a patriotic celebration called The Freedom Ball. The Freedom Ball is a Waco Aviation Alliance-sponsored event, supported by Blackhawk, that honors our troops and veterans while raising scholarship funds for students wanting to pursue careers in aviation, with special consideration given to those who are dependents of active-duty military personnel and veterans. As costs of education and training in the aviation industry continue to escalate every year, it becomes ever more difficult for young people to get into aviation. These young people are the life blood of our industry. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29.
One of the scholarship recipients from last year, Colin Mocek, will be attending Texas A&M in the fall to study aeronautical engineering. His goal is to someday design unmanned aerial vehicles. Colin has his private pilot license and is also working on his instrument and commercial ratings. Colin is the caliber of young people we need to sustain our industry.
